The Estate

A small, historic estate set among vineyards of striking beauty, along the panoramic road that links Gavi to Novi Ligure.

Twenty-six hectares of vineyards benefit from a singular terroir, devoted exclusively to Cortese and to the production of Gavi, Piedmont's great white wine.

Long regarded as one of the most respected wine estates in the Gavi area, the property sits on a scenic ridgeline between Gavi and Novi Ligure.

Acquired by Araldica Vigneti in 2002, the estate has since undergone extensive restoration of both the winery and its vineyards, with the aim of shaping La Battistina into a benchmark estate for premium Gavi DOCG.

The Vineyards

The estate farms 26 hectares of contiguous vineyards, well exposed to the south. The vines are predominantly old, with an average age of 30–35 years, rooted in soils marked by a distinctive presence of marly clays, a rare feature within the area.

An exceptional terroir

La Battistina occupies the south-facing slope of a small valley that forms an isolated pocket of well-drained white soils, long recognised as among the finest in the entire Gavi denomination.

The favourable position, the valley's microclimate, and the advanced age of the vines combine to give Gavi wines of remarkable complexity, structure, and elegance, defined by delicate, fruit-driven aromas.

Distinct vineyards, distinct vinifications

The estate is divided into two clearly defined areas, giving rise to markedly different wines.

Most of the grapes are used to produce Gavi La Battistina, a wine characterised by citrus and tropical notes, supported by vibrant freshness and a long, balanced finish. Younger vineyards located closer to the estate are instead dedicated to the production of La Battistina's two sparkling wines, made using the Martinotti and Traditional methods. A small parcel is planted to Timorasso.

The Wines

La Battistina's wines express the most precise, vertical, and saline side of Cortese. Limestone-rich soils and an essential, focused winemaking approach result in wines that are clean-cut, expressive, and deeply rooted in the identity of Gavi.
