The Estate

Once a historic pilgrimage site, Santa Seraffa is an 18-hectare estate set high on the pass that separates the Scrivia Valley from the Gavi area, commanding open views over the surrounding hills.

For centuries, Cortese has been cultivated here for the production of Gavi, reaching a level of excellence shaped by a distinctive terroir that lends the wines elegance and freshness. After years of private ownership, Santa Seraffa became part of the Araldica Group. Today, all 18 hectares are farmed within the municipality of Gavi, producing around 125,000 bottles exclusively of Gavi del Comune di Gavi DOCG.

The Vineyards

Santa Seraffa farms 18 hectares of vineyards in the municipality of Gavi. Cortese is the estate's sole grape variety, and it receives focused agronomic and winemaking attention, with the aim of producing Gavi wines of singular personality – elegant, refined, and luminous.

Between sea and hills

The vineyards lie to the east of the town of Gavi, across a hilly system that separates the Gavi area from the Scrivia Valley. This landscape combines woodland, sunlit vineyards, and natural waterways.

Here, Cortese has long expressed its full potential, shaping a distinctive identity. It is a grape variety capable of holding together the complexity and finesse of Piedmontese wines with elements typical of nearby Liguria – a pronounced mineral edge and the subtle influence of saline air currents carried inland from the sea. It is this unique meeting point between sea and hills that defines the terroir of Santa Seraffa and of Gavi itself.

White soils

Santa Seraffa is located in the central belt of the Gavi denomination, which includes eleven municipalities in the south-eastern corner of Piedmont, in the province of Alessandria.

This area is characterised by alternating marl and sandstone formations: pale, limestone-rich soils of Serravallian origin, typical of the municipality of Gavi. From a chemical and physical standpoint, the soils contain no active limestone, are slightly acidic, highly permeable, and capable of good water retention.

The Wines

After hand harvesting, the grapes are transferred immediately to the winery, cooled to around 5 °C, and gently pressed. Cold pressing helps prevent micro-oxidation and preserves the finest aromatic compounds of the Cortese grape, resulting in wines defined by clarity, freshness, and precision.
