The Estate

Covering 102 hectares, with 45 planted to vine in a single, contiguous holding, the estate lies within the municipality of Acqui Terme.

Its complex landscape, shaped by multiple exposures and distinct micro-environments, gives it a singular identity within Alto Monferrato. A historic wine estate with deep-rooted viticultural heritage, it is now defined by a careful balance between tradition and research, the restoration of old vineyards, and the thoughtful expression of an exceptional terroir.

The Vineyards

The vineyards stretch from east to west, benefiting from excellent sun exposure and pronounced day–night temperature shifts. These conditions support natural freshness, aromatic precision, and a broad expressive range in the wines.

A demanding topography

Altitude ranges from 200 to 450 metres above sea level. Soils vary from parcel to parcel, alternating between marl, sandstone, and clay, creating ideal conditions for distinctive, character-driven interpretations.

Steep slopes – one of the defining features of the estate – require careful management and, in many cases, manual work. This is a landscape shaped by constant effort, but one that rewards it with highly concentrated grapes and a wide spectrum of expressions, closely tied to individual parcels and their microclimates.

A centre for research and experimentation

A centre for research and experimentation.

Il Cascinone is conceived as a working research site. Its specific climatic conditions allow for experimentation with grape varieties rarely found in Monferrato, including Riesling and Pinot Noir.

Alongside established local varieties, the estate is also home to recovery and ampelographic research projects, such as Slarina and Baratuciat, developed in collaboration with the University of Turin's Faculty of Agriculture.

The Wines

Il Cascinone reveals the multifaceted nature of its territory through a range that extends well beyond Barbera d'Asti, its historic cornerstone. Alongside oak-aged Superiore expressions, the portfolio includes wines from experimental varieties, fresh and varietal-driven interpretations, research cuvées, and selected bottlings that reflect the diversity of soils, elevations, and ideas that take shape on this estate.
