Palate / Gusto: |
This is a medium-bodied, rich red wine, with very distinctive Pinot Nero character. Succulent, black cherry fruit fills the palate and blends well with an underlying richness of truffle and mushroom. Warm, spicy tones gained from oak ageing combine perfectly with the fruit to give a beautifully balanced wine of great structure and complexity. |

Ageing potential / Invecchiamento: |
The 2000 Renero can be drunk now in its vibrant youth, but would be better if kept for up to five years during which time it will develop a greater richness, with enhanced nuances and flavours of truffles and mushrooms. |

Vineyard / Vigneto: |
The fruit comes from the Renero Vineyard that is situated at 300m around the ridge of a hilltop with a southwest exposition and fantastic views. The traditional Guyot training system is used for these eighteen year old vines - Pinot Nero clone 115 - that flourish in the sandy clay, slightly chalky soils, rendering a low crop of around 5 Tonnes per hectare. |

Wine making / Vinificazione: |
The grapes for the 2000 Renero were handpicked, crushed, hand-plunged, and fermented with selected yeasts in small stainless steel vats, before being gently pressed. The juice then underwent malo-lactic fermentation and was aged in 40% new and 60% old French oak barriques for 6 months. Bottled in the late spring, the wine was left to mature in bottle for 8 months before being released. |
