Poderi Alasia logo - Camillona Sauvignon DOC 2003

  Tasting Notes
Camillona

Colour / Colore:

A bright, mid lemon colour with green highlights.

Aroma / Profumo:

Aromas of lemon and passion fruit intermingled with creamy notes fill the glass.

Palate / Gusto:

A medium-bodied, dry white wine, with ripe passion fruit flavours, and undertones of citrus fruit. Subtle, creamy, nutty notes combine with the fruit on the palate giving a richness that finishes with great length, a hint of spice and fresh acidity.

Ageing potential / Invecchiamento:

This wine is drinking well now but will also benefit from ageing in bottle for up to three years where it will develop asparagus tones and increased richness.

Vineyard / Vigneto:

It is situated on a hilltop site, about 300m high, beside a beautifully formed distinctive oak tree where low-cropping Sauvignon Blanc grapes flourish. The easterly disposition, which avoids the flavour stripping hot afternoon sun, together with the free draining, gravely clay soils provide excellent conditions for growing quality, fruit-packed Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The relatively young vines are trained in the classic vertical shoot positioning manner using cane pruning.

Wine making / Vinificazione:

The grapes for the 2002 Camillona were hand harvested, chilled, de-stemmed and crushed. They were then pressed to a stainless steel tank for settling for 36 hours. The clear juice was racked to one-year-old French oak barriques where it was cool fermented. After 3 months ageing in oak, the wine was racked, carefully filtered, and bottled.
